Julian McBride is a racing driver competing in British endurance motorsport as well as an ARDS Instructor, Motorsport UK Level 2 Coach and FIA Disabled Driver Mentor.
Following a spinal injury in 2011, Julian redirected a long-standing passion for motorsport into competitive racing, making his debut in 2016. Since then he has built a career defined by progression, technical discipline and resilience, culminating in entry into the Britcar Endurance Championship in 2026.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Alongside his motorsport career, Julian has spent more than three decades working in the technology sector specialising in IT and cyber security.
His career has included both technical and commercial leadership roles, working with organisations such as Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, Symantec and Nominet in environments where decision-making, accountability and performance under pressure are constant.
That professional background continues to shape his approach to racing, coaching and mentoring. Preparation, discipline and attention to detail are just as relevant in motorsport as they are in technology and business.
THE TURNING POINT
In 2011 Julian sustained a spinal injury following routine surgery and was diagnosed with Cauda Equina Syndrome. The injury left him paralysed from the waist down and required extensive rehabilitation before he regained partial mobility.
The experience became the catalyst for something he had always wanted to do but had never pursued seriously: motor racing.
Rather than accepting limitations, Julian decided to obtain his race licence and see how far he could go. What began as a personal challenge quickly became a competitive pursuit, requiring both technical adaptation and a disciplined approach to driving.
Racing became the arena in which that mindset was tested.

MOTORSPORT MENTORING & COACHING
Since making his racing debut in 2016, Julian has competed in a number of endurance championships across the UK, achieving class victories, podium finishes and championship success before stepping up to the Britcar Endurance Championship.
Alongside racing, he works as an ARDS Instructor and Motorsport UK Level 2 Coach, helping drivers develop both their technical skills and their understanding of performance on track.
Julian is also an FIA Disabled Driver Mentor, having been selected as part of a small group of individuals worldwide invited to participate in the programme. In this role he supports drivers and individuals involved in motorsport who are navigating the additional challenges of competing with a disability.
PERSPECTIVE
Across racing, coaching and mentoring, the principle remains the same. Performance rarely comes from a single moment. It is built through preparation, discipline and the willingness to keep refining the details.
Whether on track, coaching drivers or working with organisations interested in performance and decision-making under pressure, the focus remains consistent: understanding the challenge, preparing properly and executing with clarity.
