COMPETING IN ELITE BRITISH ENDURANCE MOTORSPORT

Julian McBride has competed in UK motorsport since 2016, focusing on endurance racing since 2018, building a career defined by absolute commitment, measured progression, technical precision and resilience.

Racing became the proving ground through which discipline and adaptation were refined in real time. Each season has represented a deliberate step forward, culminating in entry into the Britcar Endurance Championship in 2026.

COMPETING AT A HIGHER LEVEL

Julian is competing in the Britcar Endurance Championship, one of the UK’s most prestigious,  multi-class endurance racing championships.

Joining the championship in 2026, he steps into elite British motorsport with Geoff Steel Racing, driving a BMW E46 powered by an S55 twin turbo engine and paired with a Drenth sequential gearbox.

The move marks a deliberate progression into a more competitive, technically demanding environment.

Britcar’s endurance format, multi-class grids and performance-balanced regulations demand discipline, adaptability and consistency across extended race durations. It is the next stage in a racing career built on continuous improvement.

ON EQUAL TERMS

Following a spinal injury in 2011, Julian competes with limited mobility and sensation in both legs.

To race at endurance level, his cars incorporate a series of technical adaptations including modified brake and throttle pedal assemblies and a hand-operated clutch system integrated with a Drenth sequential gearbox to compensate for limited fine pedal control in both legs.

These are engineering solutions designed to enable competition at the same standard as fully able-bodied drivers; preparation, setup and continuous refinement remain central to his approach.

RESILIENCE UNDER PRESSURE

During a testing session at Snetterton on 16th May 2025, Julian’s BMW M3 suffered a catastrophic suspension failure at high speed, resulting in a head-on impact with a tyre wall.

Given his previous spinal injury in 2011, the incident raised immediate concern. He was taken to hospital for precautionary scans and later discharged the same day.

While no major structural injury occurred, the impact required recovery and physiotherapy.  He not only returned for the final round but won it outright.

Motorsport demands preparation, composure and the ability to reset, physically and mentally!

THE COMPETITIVE MINDSET

Endurance racing is built on preparation and control. Success rarely comes from isolated moments of speed, but from sustained consistency. Success starts with health and wellbeing which includes nutrition, exercise, mindset even before getting to the circuit.  These, along with car setup, tyre management and decision-making under pressure all influence the final result long before the chequered flag falls.

Julian approaches each race weekend with a focus on refinement rather than spectacle. Data is reviewed, feedback is applied and incremental adjustments are made to both car, driving technique and mindset. Over time, those small improvements compound.

The objective is simple: compete properly, compete consistently and let performance speak for itself.
